ZDNET's key takeaways

  • Anker Solix unveils the E10 whole-home backup system.
  • E10 combines battery storage, solar input, and an optional generator.
  • The system is now available for shipping.

The Anker Solix E10, a smart hybrid whole-home backup system that combines battery storage with solar input and optional generator integration, is officially launching today and shipping to users across the country. The company claims this is the first system of its kind to seamlessly blend all three power sources for residential use across the continental US.

I saw the E10 in person at CES 2026 last month, and what stood out immediately was how approachable the system looked. As someone with solar panels on my roof and who has been considering battery backup for years, I found myself really connecting with the modular design. Thankfully, this is not the kind of system that demands an electrical engineering degree to understand.

The E10 addresses a growing concern among homeowners who have experienced extended outages due to extreme weather events. Rather than forcing customers to choose between battery backup or generator power, Anker Solix designed the E10 to leverage both simultaneously through what the company calls its Power Dock technology.

At the heart of the E10 is a modular 6 kWh battery that scales up to 90 kWh when combined with three full systems. Watching the booth demonstration, I was impressed by how effortlessly the batteries stacked together. The design makes a compelling case for homeowners who want to start with less capacity and expand later, or those planning to add more solar panels down the line and need additional storage to match.

A single E10 unit delivers up to 37.2 kW of surge power, enough to start a 5-ton air conditioning unit, according to Anker Solix specifications. The company also touts a Turbo Output mode that boosts power to 10 kW per unit for up to 90 minutes during high-demand situations.

The system accepts up to 9 kW of solar input per unit and is compatible with rigid panels, portable panels, and third-party AC solar systems. When solar and battery reach their limits, the Smart Generator connects directly via DC rather than AC, which Anker Solix says extends backup duration by five times compared to traditional generator setups.

Two installation paths exist for the E10. The Power Dock option provides automatic switchover to backup power within 20 milliseconds, protecting appliances during grid failures. For customers seeking a more budget-conscious approach, the Smart Inlet Box offers manual switchover and integrates with existing solar installations.

Anker Solix designed the hardware for outdoor installation, with an all-metal NEMA 4 enclosure and an operating range from minus 4 degrees to 131 degrees Fahrenheit. The stackable, plug-and-play design targets DIY installers, though the company also offers nationwide professional installation services.

From what I saw at CES, the DIY pitch seemed credible, and the entire system appeared foolproof for someone like me, who doesn't have a deep understanding of the complex nature of home battery systems. For homeowners who have hesitated about installing a battery backup because the process seemed intimidating, the E10 appears designed to remove that friction.

The Anker Solix backup station is shipping nationwide starting today, and customers can buy it now through Amazon and the Anker Solix store.

The company is also offering a free 400-watt solar panel, accessory kit, and a three-year warranty extension for bundle purchases made before February 28. Pricing starts at $4,299 dollars for the base system with one inverter and one battery, then jumps to $6,599 dollars for the base system with one battery plus and Smart Inlet Box, $7,799 dollars for the base system with one battery and the Power Dock, and $9,399 dollars for the full kit with the base system, Power Dock, and Smart Generator.
