Period cramps aren't pleasant, and more than half of those who menstruate experience moderate to severe pain during their period, according to Yale Medicine.

This latest health technology device aims to make menstrual periods more tolerable. OhmBody is a wearable neurostimulation device designed to reduce period symptoms and cramps — no medication required — and it's on display at CES 2026.

By attaching near the ear, the device targets the auricular branches of the trigeminal and vagus nerves to regulate menstrual cycle symptoms and help the body return to a rested state. These nerves play a crucial role throughout the menstrual cycle, releasing estrogen and progesterone, two essential sex hormones. They also target muscle contraction, blood flow, digestion, and more, a few body functions that change during a period, which explains the increase in cramps and tightening of blood vessels. 

Neurostimulation intensity is adjustable

Users can adjust the device's neurostimulation to their desired intensity. At CES, an OhmBody representative explained that the earpiece's neurostimulation is similar to a foot falling asleep. 

Women on their period can use the device, which includes a patented earpiece and a handheld device resembling a baby monitor, for two hours during the days they're menstruating. The earpiece supplies stimulation to the aforementioned nerves, which OhmBody claims helps the nervous system return to a rested state.

A few studies have found that vagus nerve stimulation makes a difference for those with dysmenorrhea, as well as reducing heavy bleeding.

In recent years, technological solutions have emerged to address menstrual health issues. Products like Natural Cycles and Oura Rings help track menstrual cycles and deliver hormone-free birth control, utilizing sensor-rich wearable technology. Vivoo unveiled a conceptual Flow Pad, a smart menstrual pad, at CES that can track vaginal microbiome health, fertility, and more. 

Reducing period pain, however, doesn't come cheap. OhmBody offers two price points for the device and eartips. The Active Kit, meant for longer wear, costs $579, and the Classic Kit costs $559.
